George Michael house in Palm Beach up for sale with $15m guide

The Palm Beach oceanfront villa associated with the late superstar George Michael has been quietly listed for sale this week for a massive $15m.

The British singer and songwriter, behind such hits as Careless Whisper, Faith, and Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, made a whirlwind visit to Sydney in 2010 while on tour in Australia and was charmed by the cliff-front property on Whale Beach Rd.

Records show it traded for $5.8m in June 2010 and locals all know the property as George Michael’s house, however title deeds are unclear and it is probable he just rented it rather than purchased.

The star died in 2016 of heart failure aged only 53 after battling drugs and alcohol and his $171m fortune was left to his sisters Melanie and Yioda.

Hairdresser Melanie died three years to the day after her brother George.

The five-bedroom pavilion-style designer home has been a popular summer rental, commanding $2000 a night.

Agent David Edwards, of LJ Hooker Palm Beach, said the five-bedroom luxury home with plunge pool has the best view up the coast at Palm Beach he had seen.

It was quietly launched to the agency database this week for sale with a buyers guide of $15m.

At the time the singer was in Sydney in 2010, to attend the Mardi Gras, there were reports he also cruised on the harbour, visited his then partner’s family in Queensland and prolonged his Australian stay for months longer than he had planned.

It appears he loved the Emerald City and his holiday home pocket of Palm Beach where the garden cascaded over the cliffs and he could see whales, dolphins and seals.

It was a welcome sanctuary from his life in London followed by paparazzi. The singer sold more than 125m records worldwide.

The Palm Beach villa on more than 600 sqm of land is on the point at Little Head, between Whale Beach and Palm Beach.

Utz Sanby designed the home to capitalise on the north-east aspect and 180-degree views across Palm Beach to the Central Coast.

The glass and steel capped pavilions frame a central courtyard, there are three levels of accommodation, and the villa has been created with entertaining very much in mind.

Edwards said the building comprises a series of fluid living spaces all connected yet also providing discreet and private areas for families and guests.

Features include travertine stone flooring to the main living areas, a fully equipped Miele kitchen with marble island bench, five king size bedrooms each opening to balconies, five bathrooms, a self-contained ground floor with media room and wet-bar, a heated infinity pool and off-street parking for three cars.

Palm Beach is the northern beaches most exclusive suburb with a median house price of $5.175m up 56 per cent in three years, according to PropertyTrack.
